Tambopata Jungle Adventure 3D/2N

Welcome to our travelers at the airport or bus station, where we will transfer you to our office for your registration. Then, we will proceed to our pier to board a boat for the 40-minute journey to the hotel. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed with a refreshing juice made from local fruits, while our guide informs you about the hotel’s policies. Afterward, we will check into our designated rooms.

Following a delicious lunch and a short nap, we will embark on a two-hour walk in the dense tropical forest, guided by a local expert. The guide will lead us along the trails, where we can appreciate a wide variety of medicinal plants and trees, some of which are over six hundred years old. During the walk, you’ll have the chance to spot wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, macaws, squirrels, reptiles, insects, frogs, and arachnids, and experience the pure energy of the rainforest in the Tambopata National Reserve.

The 3 Days Tambopata Adventure Tour is exclusively designed for those who want to experience the best of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest in a short time. This tour provides an insight into the culture and wildlife of Tambopata.

Among the most popular sites, Oxbow Lake and Parrot Clay Lick are unmissable in the Tambopata National Reserve. The name Tambopata comes from the Quechua words “Tambo” meaning “building” and “Pata” meaning “high place.” The reserve is named after the famous Tambopata River, which flows into the Peruvian Amazon from Lake Titicaca.

Tambopata is home to over 13 endangered species, including jaguars, harpy eagles, giant armadillos, and giant otters.

Day 1. Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata

Welcome to our traveler at the airport or bus station and transfer to our local office for your corresponding registration. Then, we will transfer to our pier where we will board our boat for a 40-minute journey to the hotel. Upon arrival, you will be served a refreshing juice made with local fruits. The guide will inform you about the hotel’s policies before we check into our designated rooms.

Following a delicious lunch and a short nap, we will embark on a two-hour walk in the dense tropical forest, guided by a local expert. Our guide will lead us along the trails, where we can appreciate a wide variety of medicinal plants and trees that can be over six hundred years old. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to spot wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, macaws, squirrels, reptiles, insects, frogs, and arachnids. Experience the pure energy of the rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve.

In the evening, we will take our boat to search for nocturnal animals along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. We have the opportunity to see caimans, owls, nightjars, and with luck, the world’s largest rodent, the capybara. We will return for dinner time.

Day 2: Visit to Sandoval Lake

One of the best times to observe wildlife is at dawn or dusk. In our case, we set out early in the morning in our boat towards Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. The biodiversity of Lake Sandoval is unmatched. To reach the lake, we walk along a wooden trail of nearly 3 km (1.8 miles). Along the way, we will be amazed by the rich fauna of this place. At the end of the trail, we take a rowboat for our journey on the lake, where we can see black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more. We return to the lodge before noon for lunch.

In the afternoon, we visit a family from the “Matsigenka” culture. We will learn about their culture, try using bows and arrows, spin and weave cotton to make their clothing called “Cushma,” and see how they make ropes from plant bark. They will also demonstrate how to make fire using natural resources. Afterward, we return to our boat and head back to the city at sunset.

As night falls, the jungle begins to offer a majestic nocturnal life. For this tour, we venture into the trails with flashlights to search for nocturnal wildlife such as porcupines, sloths, arachnids, insects, reptiles, opossums, night monkeys, and owls. We return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Optional Tour – Transfer to Puerto Maldonado

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we visit a local farm to learn about plant grafting and different types of soils. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to taste and see tropical rainforest plantations such as coffee, cocoa, citrus fruits, ingas, and bananas. We return to the lodge around noon.

We offer the option to relax at the lodge, and in the evening, we return to the city to pick up any luggage you may have left at our office. We will then proceed to the airport or bus terminal for your departure.

The Tambopata Jungle Adventure was a thrilling and immersive experience. From the moment we arrived, the jungle’s vibrant energy surrounded us, with wildlife sightings that included monkeys, caimans, and colorful birds. The boat rides and jungle treks were both exciting and peaceful, allowing us to truly connect with the Amazon.

The lodge was comfortable, though a little rustic, and the food was tasty and filling. While the 3-day itinerary allowed us to see a lot, it did feel a bit fast-paced at times. I would have liked to have had more time to soak in the surroundings and enjoy a slower pace. The guide was very knowledgeable, but I think there could have been more in-depth discussions about the biodiversity and conservation efforts in the area.

Overall, a fantastic short adventure into the jungle, perfect for those who want a quick Amazon getaway but still want to experience its raw beauty and wildlife.
