Manu Jungle Expeditions

Manu Jungle Expeditions is a 3-day Manu Tour that provides an overview of life in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest.

This Manu National Park Tour from Cusco is one of our signature tours. We have an expert team of English-speaking local tour guides who will give you an in-depth insight into life in the Amazon.

We have designed this 3-Day Manu Tour to take you through the Peruvian highland region to the cloud forests, offering you the chance to spot various species of birds, orchids, and monkeys.

On the first night, we will stay at Rainfores-Lodge in the Manu Cultural Zone. The following day, we will travel by boat to the Palotoa Amazon Lodge in the Manu National Park.

This region is home to many distinct plants (mostly medicinal), giant trees, and monkeys. You will also have the chance to spot different birds and monkeys. On the second night of the 3-Day Manu Jungle Expeditions, we will embark on a night safari to spot insects, spiders (tarantulas), snakes, and frogs.

Palotoa Amazon Travel is a fully locally-owned tour operator. Our excellent team of local guides, born and raised in the region, possess extensive knowledge of the flora, fauna, and Amazonian traditions and culture. We aim to offer an authentic Amazon experience to our guests.

Day 1: Cusco – Rain Forest Lodge

Early in the morning, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then, in our private transport, we will be driving you through the Peruvian highland region with a view of snow-capped Andean peaks to Manu National Park.

As this is a long drive, we will have stops at regular intervals at some interesting sights. We will be stopping at a folkloric town – Paucartambo. Our local expert will be giving you a guided tour of the town and explain about the traditions and customs here.

We will then drive up the hill to 3600 meters above sea level. From the viewpoint here, you will get a panoramic view of the Amazon basin. We will then descend to Manu National Park. We will be stopping here to explore different native cloud forest habitats.

Our local expert will give you a guided tour where you will be able to see different species of flora and fauna. You will also have the opportunity to see many orchids and primitive ferns. This region is home to the Peruvian National Bird – Andean cock of the rock. You will also be able to spot different species of monkeys like the wooly monkey.

Later in the evening, we will be reaching Pilcopata. We will be accommodating you in an ensuite room in Raim Fores Lodge.

Meals Included: Lunch and Dinner.

Day 2: Rain Forest Lodge – Soga de Oro Lodge

You will be waking up to a typical Amazonian breakfast. We will then drive you in our private transport to Atalaya Port. Here we will be boarding our motor boat for a short ride to our next lodge deep in the Amazon Rainforest.

After checking into the lodge, we will be hiking through some pristine jungle trails. On this three-hour tour, you will be able to spot different medicinal plants. Locals here rely on such natural remedies. Our guide will be explaining the use of different plants.

Here, you will also have the opportunity to spot some big animals. We will then return to Soga de Oro Lodge for lunch. Our chef will be serving an authentic Amazonian lunch.

After lunch, you will have some free time. You can take a dip in the fresh and clear waters of the Madre de Dios River. Later that evening, we will be sailing on a native wooden raft. On this tour, you will be able to spot different birds. We will then return to the lodge for dinner.

After dinner, you will have the option to join us on a night safari to spot caimans.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 3: Soga de Oro Lodge – Cusco

At daybreak, we will be leaving the lodge for a 15-minute boat ride down the river to witness the famous Parrot Clay Lick.

This is one of the unmissable sights in Manu Jungle Expeditions. Over a dozen species of parrots and parakeets fly to the cliff to lick the clay. The clay here is rich in salt content. It helps them to flush out any toxins they may have consumed from the seeds, flowers, and fruits.

Once you have had your fill of this enchanting sight, we will take the motor boat back to our lodge. After breakfast, we will be traveling to Atalaya boat pier. Here, our driver will be waiting for us and will be driving us back to Cusco. We will be reaching Cusco in the evening.

What an incredible experience! Going into the Manu jungle was like entering another world. The boat trip along the rivers was just the beginning of an adventure that surprised me at every step. Seeing monkeys, jaguars and thousands of birds in their natural habitat was something I will never forget. The guided walks were educational and exciting, and sleeping in the jungle, surrounded by its sounds, was a unique connection with nature.
