We start our journey early in the morning. After gathering all passengers, we head towards Ollantaytambo, where you can have breakfast. We continue to Km 82 Piscacucho (2,700 m), the first control center, and begin the trek to Machu Picchu. After about 2 hours of trekking, we arrive at Llaqtapata (2,750 m.), an archaeological site of Inca architecture, which our guide will explain. After our visit, we enjoy lunch prepared by our cook, then continue our walk to our first camp, Wayllabamba (3,000 m.), where we have a short break, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
In the morning after breakfast, we continue the trek, ascending slightly for 9 km towards the Warmiwañusca Pass (4,200 m.), the highest point of the Inca Trail. The ascent includes small stairs and terraces, so we recommend a steady pace. Once everyone is gathered, we descend by stone stairs, passing through a variety of endemic flora. We arrive at our second campsite, Pacaymayo (3,600 m.), where we have a good dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast, we continue our hike, a 15 km stretch full of greenery and Inca archaeological sites. Our first site is Runkurakay (3,970 m.), a strategic Inca complex with towers to observe the valley. We then continue to Chaquicocha for lunch and visit Phuyupatamarka (meaning “town or place above the clouds”). We finish the day at Wiñaywayna, another amazing archaeological complex, where we stay for the night. This 6-hour trek offers beautiful landscapes and vegetation.
Early in the morning after breakfast, we continue trekking to Machu Picchu. We pass the last control and arrive at Inti Punku (Sun Gate), offering a panoramic view of the Inca city of Machu Picchu. We then have a guided tour, exploring the most important and prominent sectors of the ancient city (Agricultural and Religious Sectors). Afterward, you’ll have time to take photos and explore the archaeological site at your own pace. We return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and then take the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus ride to Cusco.
A free day to visit museums, shop, or simply rest and prepare for the jungle trip the next day.
Cusco – Manu Jungle Trip (4 days, 3 nights in the cultural zone). We pick you up early from your hotel and take a private bus ride through colonial towns, eventually arriving at the Cloud Forest, home of the exotic Peruvian National Bird, the “Cock of the Rocks,” and other Amazonian birds. We stay overnight at Paradise Lodge.
We continue for 1 hour by bus and arrive at Atalaya, a small port. From here, we take a 3-hour boat ride to Palotoa Amazon Lodge. Along the way, we stop to visit a beautiful lagoon that attracts many bird species. After exploring for about 3 hours, we continue to the lodge. In the evening, we take a night walk in the jungle to see anthropoids, tarantulas, scorpions, and snakes.
Today, we explore the primary and secondary jungle, looking for wildlife such as monkeys, peccaries, and anteaters. We also do some bird watching to spot macaws, toucans, woodpeckers, parrots, oropendolas, and more. Your guide will teach you about medicinal plants. In the evening, we make a bonfire and BBQ, enjoying drinks prepared by our cook.
In the morning, we return from Palotoa Lodge, traveling back to Atalaya. Our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco, passing through the beautiful Cloud Forest. We arrive in Cusco around 6:30 pm and drop you off at your hotel.
Cusco – Lima – A 1-hour and 30-minute flight brings us back to Lima, where you can connect with your international flight or continue your travels.
The high season on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is from May to September, because this time coincides with vacations in the Western Hemisphere. These months probably offer the best trekking conditions with a dry and sunny climate. The Inca Trail closes the month of February of each year, because it is the rainiest month.
Children accustomed to walking can do the Inca Trail, although we recommend that they be over 12 years old.
It is recommended that you have a good level of physical condition, however, you do not have to be a fan of exercise.
Altitude is one of the biggest challenges about trekking in Peru. To help you acclimatize and avoid the symptoms of altitude sickness, we recommend the following:
This does not happen very often; However, if it happens, our guides are very experienced and know how to act in case of any emergency or unexpected occurrence. They will do everything possible to help you complete your walk. In addition, first aid kits and oxygen tanks are carried for emergencies. However, if you become seriously ill and need to return to Cusco, you will be treated quickly and arrangements will be made for you.
No, unfortunately, once your reservation is confirmed, we cannot change your trekking date or reimburse your permit.
There are several toilets along the way, some have toilets, but most of them do not. When you are in your camp, you will have a bathroom store that will be only for your group.
