Day 1 – Puerto Maldonado /Monkey Island, Canopy Walk / Spotting Wild Life:
You will be transferred from the airport (Puerto Maldonado) to the river port on the Madre de Dios River.Next, we will take you from here in our motor boat and go down the Madre de Dios river until we arrive at our lodge (Amazon lodge).
Our team staff will help you to install in your respective room. When you are ready, we will visit the famous monkey island, where we will be able to observe a huge amount of monkey species as well as animals, amphibious insects, and birds.
Later, we will have the next activity at the canopy tower. A very amusing activity where you can enjoy the spectacular views at the top of the trees, and the immensity of the Amazon jungle.
In the afternoon we will be returning to the lodge to have a delicious local dinner. After dinner, we will have the last activity of the day, which consists of a night trip to spot alligators. Our guide will provide you with some very powerful lanterns to watch the alligators.
Finally, we will spend the night in a comfortable lodge in our Tambopata Amazon Lodge.
Day 2 – Amazon Garden Lodge –Tambopata National Reserve – Lake Sandoval:
This day we will start very early to have an amazon adventure at the ecological reserve of Tambopata.
After breakfast, we will have a nice day tour. We will have a 3 km walk across the Madre de Dios river. During the tour, our guide will show you more about the biodiversity that exists in this beautiful Amazon rainforest. You will discover the Amazing Sandoval Lake.
This real wonder will allow us to spot a great variety of animals, such as birds, monkeys and sloths. You’ll go on a boat ride through the lake to get a closer view from the animals.
If luck is with us, you might be able to see giant otters, which are in danger of extinction, or big black caimans, that can reach up to five meter long. After exploring the lake, we will have lunch in the National reserve.
We recommend you bring bathing suits, since it is perfect to take a refreshing swim, because of the very hot climate. Afterwards we will return to the lodge to have dinner and rest.
Day 3 – Amazon Garden Lodge/ Tambopata River – Tambopata Lodge:
Today after breakfast, our motor boat will take us to Puerto Maldonado city.
There will be 4×4 land trucks waiting to carry us to our destination for about 2 hours until we arrive at the banks of the Tambopata River (the trip by river takes just 1 hour). We will be traveling to our lodge ‘Tambopata Learning Lodge’.
In the afternoon, after we finish lunch we will have an introductory walk into the rainforest. We will have the opportunity to observe many animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among other species.
Once we end our little trip, we will return back to the installations of the lodge to have a proper dinner before ending the day.
Day 4 Tambopata lodge – Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Spotting Wildlife:
You will wake up very early around 4:30 am to begin an incredible journey by boat to the world’s largest macaw clay lick “ EL CHUNCHO”.
This is about one and a half hours by boat. On the way we will have the opportunity to see some species such as capybaras, which is the world’s largest rodents, tapirs, and you can even spot the most beautiful South American feline, the Jaguar, many of our visitors had the opportunity to witness them and keep record of its encounters with these majestic mammals.
After arriving at the clay licks that are often found on the outer bends of meandering rivers, you will see hundreds of parrots and macaws of distincts species congregating to begin one of the most beautiful natural sights of birds in the world.
Parrots are followed by 3 species of the most colorful macaws of America, reds and greens, blues and yellows come to gather to eat clay, as we explain before the act is needed to eliminate the toxins caused by their diet.
On a good day you will be lucky to see hundreds of these colorful animals flying over you, an experience you will remember forever.
When we return to the lodge, lunch will be waiting for us. Next, our tour guide will take us one a trail to have a short hike to see more of the biodiversity that lives here.
Wild rodents, pigs, squirrels and many species of birds, insects and giant trees will be found at this point.
Way back to the lodge, we will have dinner. You can also step out from the bar whenever you want to admire the wide variety of nocturnal moths, beetles and praying mantis attracted to our black light in the lodge clearing.
For those who still are with lots of energy, can be taken out on a short night-walk into the forest behind the lodge by one of our guides.
Day 5 – Tambopata Lodge – Puerto Maldonado:
This last day after sharing breakfast all together, you will be returning to Puerto Maldonado. During the returning trip we will have the last shot to admire the extraordinary wildlife.
In the afternoon we will be arriving at the city, where we will be leaving you at the bus station.

How is the weather in the Tambopata National Reserve?
Come prepared with a raincoat or poncho for rain, since in the rain forest it can rain at any time. It is also advisable to bring bathing clothes to bathe in the streams. For excursions in the trail system maintained by Tambopata Trek, rubber boots are available in a selection of sizes.
What things should I take for the tour to the Tambopata National Reserve?
Flashlights with enough batteries for night walks, binoculars, insect repellent, with more than 30% DEET, a bottle of water for the first day.
What clothes should I take for the tour to the Tambopata National Reserve?
For walks in the forest we recommend wearing light clothing, long and loose pants, long-sleeved shirts, and waterproff shoes or rubber boots, slippers. In the hostel, guests can wear shorts, short-sleeved shirts and sandals. In the early jungle in the morning they can be cold, and it is advisable to wear a windbreaker or long-sleeved sweater.
Is it mandatory to get vaccinated before the tour to the Tambopata National Reserve?
None is mandatory in Peru, but they are recommended. Typically, when one travels vaccines against typhoid, infectious hepatitis and polio are recommended. Check with your doctor or local clinic before traveling.
